Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski mentioned the presence of Ukrainian soldiers on Monday in the Russian region of Belgorod, where Moscow reported attacks in March and bordering Kursk, AFP notes, taken over by Agerpres.
On Monday, “the chief commander of the Ukrainian army, General Oleksandr Sîrski, gave a separate report on the front line, our presence in the Kursk region and our presence in the Belgorod region,” Zelenski said in his daily speech on social networks.
“We continue to carry out active operations in the border areas, on the enemy's territory, and this is completely justified,” he added.
It is for the first time that Zelenski clearly mentioned the Ukrainian military presence in the Belgorod region, the target of several armed incursions and deadly bombing over the past three years.
The Russian army reported that it had faced Ukrainian soil attacks in the region in March, while Kiev forces were retired to the neighboring Kursk region.
According to the specialized site Deepstate, close to the Ukrainian army, Kiev troops control only a small area of 13 square kilometers in the Belgorod region, around the Demidovka border village.
