The new regulations will please drivers. It's about legal LEDs in cars.

There are many cars on Polish roads, whose lights can raise many doubts. Both the bulbs themselves and the consumption of halogen headlights make the cars illuminated in a way that leaves much to be desired, and the new regulations can significantly help drivers to improve the quality of lighting their vehicles.

According to Dziennik.pl, drivers in older cars are looking for ways to make their cars better visible on the roads. Some decide to mount LED bulbs in the headlights, i.e. retrofits. Such changes in vehicles make modified lamps ensure a whiter beam of light with a larger and wider range. In addition, due to greater resistance to vibrations and temperatures, they have a longer life (up to 3000 hours). Retrophins are in the same sizes, mounting methods and markings, such as halogen bulbs (e.g. H7 or H4).
The problem is that Such modifications were not allowed by road law. “Installation of LEDs as substitutes for traditional reflectors in Poland is still illegal. In car lamps, only approved light sources can be used with the category provided by the lamp manufacturer, “explains Dr. Eng. Piotr Kaźmierczak from the ITS approval and testing plant in an interview with Dziennik.pl.
The expert admits that the change of bulbs alone is often a seeming improvement. By using the lamp shade or matting, you can achieve an undesirable effect in the form of illuminating other road users.

As explained by Dziennik.pl, in some EU countries the so -called The national admission of LED retrofits, which de facto applies only in a given country. Approval was honored in their area, which was used, for example, in the case of H4 and H7 bulbs in Germany. In addition to the retrofit itself, the brand and the car model were often taken into account.

EU officials, however, decided on new regulations, thanks to which LED bulbs in cars – more specifically type H11 – can be mounted in cars. Of course, provided that the manufacturers obtained approval. According to Dziennik.pl, at least two manufacturers – OSRAM and Philips – offer these LED substitutes, which can be legally mounted in older cars.

This is a great help for car owners with halogen headlights who want to improve the quality of vehicle lighting. At the same time, the expert recommends that drivers using a legal LED replacement have a printout of the approval certificate. This should be presented during vehicle inspection by policemen, because many times drivers decided to install illegal (i.e. non -approval) retrofits.
“Homologed products have a approval designation with an identification number, which is also indicated on the approval certificate” – indicates Dr. Eng. Piotr Kaźmierczak from the ITS approval and testing plant, whose words are cited by the website dziennik.pl.
