The male basketball team of Romania finished the 1st Group E Pravalifications for the 2027 World Basketball Championship, after Northern Macedonia beat Hungary 82-75 Wednesday night.
The “tricolors” lost a few days ago the last match of the group At a very large difference, 20 points, against Hungary, and there were very high chances for them to finish second in the group. The failure of the Hungarians against North Macedonia, totally unexpected, has changed the calculations, and our national ended the first group.
Romania has won the Group from the World Cup Precalifications
After 3 consecutive victories in the second phase of precalifications for the 2027 World Basketball Championship, Romania had assured its qualification further in the competition, but now it is safe and the first place, taking advantage of the wrong step by Hungary, a team that had defeated North Macedonia with 96-58.
With 7 points (three victories and a defeat), Romania won the group, followed by Hungary, with 6 points, and it qualified in the next qualifications for the final tournament.
Further, in the preliminaries, Romania will be part of Group B, together with Greece, Montenegro and Portugal.
