Trump spoke first in the oval office.
“We had a good meeting, as you know, some time ago with the President of Russia,” said Trump. “I think that there is a possibility that something will result from it. And today's meeting is very important.”
Zelenski spoke as the second. He said:
“Thank you very much for your personal efforts to stop the murders and end this war.”
“We want it to end well for everyone. People in Ukraine have suffered a lot.”
Tripartite meeting soon? Here's what Trump said
Both, the US president and the President of Ukraine, mentioned the three -way meeting, probably with Putin:
“We will have a meeting. I think that if everything goes well today, we will have a tripartite meeting and I think that there will be a reasonable chance to end the war, when it will take place” Trump said.
Zelenski added: “We supported the idea of President Trump to end this war, find a diplomatic way of its ending. And we are ready for a tripartite meeting.”
When asked about security guarantees, Trump replied: “There will be a lot of security help. It will be a lot of help. It will be good. They are the first line of defense, because it is Europe. But we will help them. We will be involved.”
Although American officials promised Ukraine security guarantees in the style of “Article 5”, it is not clear what exactly that means.
Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, let us recall, obliges members to provide mutual assistance in the event of a military threat.

Trump was asked if Americans would send peace forces to Ukraine.
“We will work with everyone and make sure that … everything will be fine. We will work with Russia. We will work with Ukraine. We will make sure that everything will work,” he replied.
Asked if security guarantees for Ukraine may include American troops, Trump said:
“We will inform you about it later today. We also meet with seven great leaders of large countries and we will talk about it. Everyone will be involved in it, but there will be a lot … There will be a lot of help”.
