Ten people died after drinking counterfeit Georgian liqueur, sold in one of the most popular tourist destinations in Russia

Two women were placed in preventive arrest on the charge that they sold counterfeit alcohol that led to the death of at least 10 people, authorities in the Krasnodar region announced on Southern Russia, writes the Russian independent publication The Moscow Times.

Investigators said the two women, aged 30 and 71, sold Georgian home liqueur, known as Chacha, in a market in the south of the Soci resort.

The source of the counterfeit alcohol has not yet been identified, according to the press service of the regional judicial system.

The Adlersky District Court ordered the preventive arrest of the two women until October 4. They were accused of the manufacture, distribution or sale of unsafe products or services that caused the death of several persons, a fact punished with up to 10 years in prison.

The images published by the Court's press service show the two women appearing separately in front of the judge.

The authorities did not make their names public, but the Telegram Shot channel, Pro-Kremlin, identified them as a woman named olesya and her pensioner, ethers. Shot also stated that both women had been previously convicted for illegal alcohol sale in 2016.

The Moscow Times notes that he could not independently check the information published by the Shot channel.

Soci is a city located in the Krasnodar region, on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, near the Republic of Georgia, being one of the most important spa and leisure resorts in Russia. Unofficially, this tourist resort is considered the “capital” of the “Caucasian riviere”.
