The contracts of the players in Serie A will undergo an automatic salary reduction, equal to 25%, in the case of series relegation. The norm is already provided in the new collective agreement signed by the president of the League A, Ezio Simoneli, and by the head of the Association of Italian footballers (AIC), Umberto Calcagno, with the opinion of the Federation (Federation). But it will be applied only for the contracts signed after September 2, 2025.
Law series A and AIC, having the Figc turn, agreed for the introduction of a historical norm, as it calls it at Gazzetta Dello Sport, a reduction with a quarter of the money received according to the new contracts in the situation in which to play in the second value echelon in Italy.
In recent years, during individual negotiations, some clubs had agreed with players to include a clause that provided for reduction of remuneration in the case of relegation. And now, this norm becomes automatic by the collective agreement and it will enter into force starting with the contracts signed after September 2, 2025.

Nicolae Stanciu is not in danger of losing a quarter of money in the second year of contract if he relegates from Serie A with Genoa
Article 5.2, paragraph 7, stipulates the following: “In the case of relegation of the team in Serie B, the fixed remuneration is automatically reduced by 25%, without the sum recalculated it can be below the minimum limit, depending on the footballer's age category, the collective contract of the players in Serie A.
The reduction mentioned in this paragraph starts from the sports season immediately following the one in which the relegation takes place and is maintained for the next possible in the cadet division, except for a new series promotion, which will lead to the restoration of the initial salary level ”.
“The clauses included at the individual contract level are exempted that protect the athletes against relegation”
The text stipulates that “in any case, the clauses at the level of individual contract are exempted that protect against relegation”. Gazzetta dello Sport writes that the parties have the right to agree differently in the case of sports.
It is explained, in fact, that the club and the athlete could agree on a remuneration “depending on the championship and/or the international competition in which the club in question will participate or will participate”.

The moves from last month who had protagonists on three “tricolors” who evolved last season in the Italian championship can also be explained in the financial key, not just a sport.
The norm will enter into force in less than a month, but the Romanian players with ongoing commitments and who will compete in season 2025-2026 will lose nothing if their teams will not be saved from relegation.
Valentin Mihăilă, Răzvan Marin and Olimpiu Moruțan Plus, as soon as, Dennis Man did not risk a reduction of the salary if at the end of the 2025-2026 season they would have fallen with Parma, Cagliari and Pisa respectively. Only the possible purchases that will be operated until September 1 will fall under the jurisdiction of this norm, from Article 5.2, paragraph 7.
