Germany will organize with the support of Jordan “a humanitarian air bridge to Gaza,” announced the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to help the population of this territory, according to the United Nations, with “alarming levels” of malnutrition, reports AFP and DPA. US President Donald Trump has also announced that the United States will soon set food distribution centers in the Gaza Strip.

The operation organized by Germany for the delivery of humanitarian aid is to start immediately, said Merz, at the end of a Security Cabinet meeting in Berlin. “The Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, will collaborate closely with France and the United Kingdom, who are also prepared to organize such an air bridge to deliver food and medical help,” the chancellor added at a press conference.

“We know that this is only a little help for the inhabitants of Gaza, but it is still a contribution that we are happy to make,” said Merz, who will receive King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday.

The German Chancellor, one of Israel's best supporters in the war against the Palestinian Islamist Movement, asked Israel to “immediately, comprehensive and sustainable the catastrophic humanitarian situation, estimating that the measures implemented this weekend by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are only a first step.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeph is to travel to the region on Thursday to help get progress in the cessation of fire between Israel and Hamas, he added, stating that he intends to talk to Israeli prime minister on Monday evening.

“We need to feed the children”

Donald Trump, on a visit to Scotland, described the humanitarian crisis of Gaza as “terrible” and said that in this Palestinian territory the children seem “very hungry” and should be helped.

“We have to feed the children,” Trump told a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. “We will set up food distribution centers where people will be able to enter free, without restrictions. There will be no fences,” Trump added.

The statements of the US President occurred one day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “there are no hunger” in Gaza.

“You know, we want to help. It's a terrible situation. All this matter is awful,” Trump said, adding that he will raise this issue to his next discussion with Netanyahu.
