Makro Polska closes four wholesalers. As many as 400 employees will slow down

Until September 30, 2025, wholesalers located in Rybnik, Słupsk, Toruń and Zabrze are completed – the Handlowy website informed. This is the next stage of restructuring activities that began last year, when the company reduced employment by over 100 people.
Currently, Makro Polska manages 29 halls and two distribution centers. After closing four objects, the number of wholesalers will drop to 25.
Makro Polska problems are associated with a difficult economic situation that hit the company's main clients – the retail sector and gastronomy. Already last year, the company's authorities announced the need to look for savings, also in the area of employment.
Macro focuses on foreign expansion
Despite the difficulties on the Polish market, Macro is developing new formats in other countries. Last year, the company presented the concept of local Bonveno stores, which debuted in the Czech Republic. The first four facilities were created in Prague, and in plans are opening more – at least one in each Czech region.
Bonveno is a response to the growing popularity of small grocery stores modeled on the Vietnamese “Večerek” model. According to Praguemorning.cz, these stores offer a wide range of products – from food products to economic chemistry – on a small commercial area.
Closing four wholesalers and reduction of employment is a signal that Makro Polska must adapt to difficult market conditions. At the same time, the company's activities in other markets, such as the development of the Bonveno concept, may indicate the direction in which the network will look for new growth opportunities.
