David Popovici (20 years old) has successfully debuted at the European U23 championships, managing to qualify in the 200 m free sample final. The Olympic champion had the best time in the series and could be watched on Thursday evening, at 19:24, in the fight for the Continental title.

Romania has moved a delegation of 13 swimmers in Slovakia, to the European U23 championships in Samorin. David Popovici set out to participate in 50 m free, 100 m free, 200 m free and the mixed 4×100 m free pole.

David Popovici dominated the 5th series, which he won with a time of 1: 46.84. The Romanian champion qualified in the final with the best time.
The double world champion entered the basin at 11:15in the 200 m free sample series. Popovici was in the 5th series. He did not force and imposed itself lightly, obtaining the best qualification time.
The competition takes place outdoors on the basis of X-Bionic Sphere and 373 swimmers from 42 countries participate. Samorin is 25 kilometers from Bratislava and houses the National Olympic Center of Slovakia.

The series start at 200 m free. Ștefan Cozma and Mihai Gergely compete in the 2nd series, and David Popovici will enter the basin in the 5th series.

In the 2nd series, Romania is represented by Stefan Cozma and Mihai Gergely, who also fights for accessing the final of the competition. The fight for gold will take place all today, at 19:24.
