Spanish socialist prime minister Pedro Sanchez assured on Thursday that he did not know “absolutely nothing” about an alleged corruption case that determined the same day on the number three in the hierarchy of the Socialist Party, Santos Cerdan, to resign from the party and from the Parliament, and also apologized to the Spanish people for this business, AFP transmits.
“Citizens (…), members and supporters of the Spanish Socialist Labor Party, want to apologize for the fact that, until this morning, I was convinced of Santos Cerdan's integrity,” Pedro Sanchez said at the party headquarters.
Admitting that he himself has “many defects”, the head of the government insisted that “believes in clean politics” and assured that finding the news about the corruption business in which his former close collaborator is involved is “a great disappointment” for him. However, Pedro Sanchez rejected the possibility of anticipated elections following this scandal, elections required by the right -wing opposition.
Santos Cerdan resigned on Thursday afternoon in the Spanish Socialist Party and also gave up the deputy mandate, after the justice announced that he is investigated for diverting funds. This is a new chapter from a vast investigation that has been conducted for several months on alleged corruption in the purchase of medical equipment during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
