Fines for Playing Russian Music in Public Venues to Range from UAH 8,500 to 170,000

Fines for playing Russian music in public venues in Ukraine will range from UAH 8,500 to UAH 170,000, according to Olena Ivanovska, the language ombudswoman. These penalties will be imposed on establishments such as cafes, restaurants, and nightclubs that violate the legislation, even if the artists are Ukrainian. The law, pending parliamentary approval, does not apply to music played at home or in vehicles, provided it is not loud enough to disturb neighbors.

Additionally, the blocking of Russian content on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes will occur only if sanctions are enacted by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) against individual artists. The penalties will take effect once the parliament votes in favor of this initiative.
