Marco Tronchetti Provera Praises Cristi Chivu but Urges Defensive Improvements for Inter

Marco Tronchetti Provera, the former CEO of Pirelli and a long-time supporter of Inter Milan, expressed his admiration for Cristi Chivu’s coaching tenure. As a trusted associate of the club’s former president, Massimo Moratti, Tronchetti highlighted areas that need improvement for the defending champions.
Ahead of the Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Tronchetti, who served as Pirelli’s CEO from 1992 until 2022, commented on Chivu’s performance as Inter’s head coach. “This Inter team has good forward momentum, but something needs fixing in defense. I believe Chivu can accomplish this. To win in Europe, a strong defense is essential,” he stated, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Marco Tronchetti Provera: “Nothing is Compromised in Europe!”
When asked by Italian journalists about Inter’s prospects in Europe, Tronchetti remained optimistic. “Nothing is compromised!” he asserted during an interview on RAI’s radio show, “La Politica nel Pallone.”
Tronchetti, who was instrumental in bringing several Romanian players, including Adrian Mutu, to Inter, also discussed Chivu’s relationship with Jose Mourinho, the coach who last led the team to a Champions League title. “Does he like Mourinho? Cristian is a great coach and will only become greater!” Tronchetti remarked.
He noted the potential for new investors to join Inter, citing genuine interest from Qatar. “It is important for Marotta to remain; with him, the club is in good hands, and his expertise should not be sacrificed,” he added.
