US Continues Intelligence Sharing with Ukraine, Says Senator

Senator Vicker discussing intelligence sharing

Senator Vicker has confirmed that the United States continues to exchange intelligence data with Ukraine, stating, “It is a fact that the United States shares intelligence, but we also receive a considerable amount of intelligence from our Ukrainian friends.” He described this exchange as a “two-way street.”

Vicker noted that the world is currently facing the most serious and dangerous situation in international security since the period before World War II. He linked this crisis to an “axis of aggression” that includes Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran.

According to Vicker, there is no doubt that these countries support one another, asserting that Russia would not be able to act as it does in Ukraine without assistance from China. He emphasized the need for heightened awareness and increased efforts from all parties involved.

The senator praised NATO’s agreement to allocate 5% of GDP to defense initiatives, adding that the United States must enhance its collaboration with South Korea and other strong allies in the Asia-Pacific region, who also face real threats.

Context

  • On October 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that partners failed to inform Ukraine about a nighttime attack involving five Russian ballistic missiles on Kyiv, emphasizing the critical role of intelligence in saving lives.
  • The explosions in the capital occurred before air raid alerts were announced. Yuri Ihnat, head of the Ukrainian Air Force’s communication department, noted that no information about the ballistic launch from Russia was received, suggesting it may have been due to technical issues.
  • Previously, The New York Times reported that during a meeting in Miami, American representatives urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries while referencing the provision of intelligence support, which some attendees interpreted as a threat.
