Formula 1 Faces Air Quality Concerns Ahead of Singapore Grand Prix

The 2026 Formula 1 calendar presents a challenge for drivers, as they prepare for two consecutive races in proximity to some of the most polluted cities globally. The first of these events took place last week in Kuala Lumpur near the Sepang circuit, followed by this weekend’s race on the streets of Singapore.
The Singapore Grand Prix is set for Sunday, October 11, starting at 15:00. It will be broadcast live on Antena 1 and the AntenaPLAY platform. Additionally, a Sprint race will take place on Saturday, October 10, at 12:00.
According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are categorized in the second-to-last tier of air quality, labeled as “very unhealthy.” This classification indicates that increasing AQI levels correlate with higher health risks for the population.
Pollution Levels in Focus
AQI levels range from 0 to 50 for clean air, while readings between 300 and 500 are deemed “hazardous,” affecting all residents in the area. Currently, Kuala Lumpur reports an AQI of 222, placing it in the very unhealthy category, while Singapore follows closely with an AQI of 212.
