German Chancellor Merz Visits Kyiv Amid Russian Drone Attacks

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv today accompanied by German Economy Minister Katrin Reiche and a substantial business delegation. Despite recent threats from Moscow, Merz expressed determination to support Ukraine.
“We will not be intimidated by the drone attack that coincided with our visit. However, while I am here in Kyiv today, I feel something entirely different. Life goes on despite this morning’s attack,” he asserted.
During the assault, Russian forces targeted the North Bridge in Kyiv with drones. Merz warned that Ukraine might face a challenging winter ahead. He noted that Russia is not only attacking major cities but also targeting energy facilities, transformer substations, fuel stations, and railway infrastructure. The likely goal of these strikes is to undermine the morale of the Ukrainian people. The Chancellor reaffirmed that the German government and its citizens stand firmly with Ukraine and will do everything possible to support it until the war concludes.
