In a recent incident, a strike on a train in Ukraine injured seven people, including railway workers and passengers. The attack was confirmed by Oleksandr Pertzovsky, the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, who stated that the train had stopped to facilitate an evacuation.
“We were able to save the staff and passengers from the worst,” Pertzovsky noted. Despite the successful evacuation, he mentioned that debris from the explosion spread significantly, causing injuries primarily classified as minor.
Background
Since summer 2025, Russia has actively targeted Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, recently escalating attacks on key junctions to disrupt connections with frontline areas and block alternative routes. In response to these threats, Ukrzaliznytsia implemented additional safety measures for passengers in March 2026, including evacuation procedures in the event of a credible strike threat.
