As the summer transfer window for top European leagues closed at midnight, Premier League clubs once again dominated spending, investing over €4 billion in new players. This amount surpasses the total expenditures of clubs in Italy, Spain, Germany, and France combined.
During the 2026-27 transfer window, there were six transactions exceeding €100 million, all involving at least one Premier League club.
Liverpool recorded the highest net loss during this transfer window, totaling €233.4 million. In contrast, Aston Villa emerged with a positive balance of €60 million.
Diomande’s Move Stands Out Amid Premier League Dominance
Late in the window, Manchester City matched the previous record set last summer by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak transfer to Liverpool for €145 million, by acquiring Enzo Fernandez for the same amount. Other notable transfers included English internationals Morgan Rogers and Elliott Anderson, who were key figures in the 2026 World Cup.

Spending Down Across Other Top Leagues
Compared to last season, clubs in Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 collectively spent over €1 billion less, totaling €3.3 billion in acquisitions. This figure is down from €4.32 billion in 2025-2026.
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 remain the only top leagues to post a profit in player transactions, with French clubs recording a profit of €725 million, nearly double that of last summer. Notably, total sales for Ligue 1 clubs reached €1.33 billion.
Transfer Activity Peaks Before Deadline
In the final hours leading up to the transfer window closure, Premier League clubs ramped up their spending, surpassing €500 million in transactions on the last day alone.
Manchester City Sets New Transfer Record
Manchester City concluded the transfer window with a record-breaking investment of €526 million, surpassing Liverpool’s previous record of €483 million from last summer. The club solidified this achievement with recent signings, including Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for €145 million and Iliman Ndiyae from Everton for €70 million.
Despite significant successes, there were missed opportunities and failed last-minute deals, with Chelsea struggling to find a replacement for the outgoing captain Enzo Fernandez. The transfer of Lamine Camara from AS Monaco, agreed at €55 million, fell through at the last moment.
