Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and surrounding areas resulted in four fatalities and at least 12 injuries on Tuesday, local authorities reported. This attack represents the sixth consecutive day of bombings in the region, according to Reuters.
Witnesses reported hearing explosions throughout Kiev. In one incident, three individuals lost their lives and five others sustained injuries, while a fire broke out in a non-residential area of the city, as stated by city officials on Telegram.
In Borispil, located in the Kiev region, a single casualty was reported and nine individuals, including a child, were injured when missiles and drones damaged an apartment block and a commercial building, according to Governor Tymur Tkachenko.
The ongoing assault disrupts the daily lives of millions, with air raid alerts sounding across much of Ukraine during the early hours of Tuesday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday that he had a “detailed and constructive” phone conversation with American President Donald Trump’s emissaries, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, regarding their planned visit to Ukraine intended to encourage peace efforts.
Counterattacks in Russia
In response, Moscow claimed to have intercepted more than 12 drones heading towards its territory, as reported by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Telegram. Ukraine continues to launch retaliatory strikes on the Russian capital and deeper regions, aiming to compel the Kremlin to end its four-and-a-half-year-long invasion.
In the Russian region of Samara, home to several key refineries approximately 800 km southeast of Moscow, an aerial attack damaged civilian facilities, according to local governor reports on Telegram.
NATO’s air policing mission in the Baltic region scrambled fighter jets in Latvia, while Finland restricted air and maritime traffic near Russia, as confirmed by the military forces of both countries on X. This comes amid reports that the Leningrad region in northwest Russia, which houses significant export ports, fired upon drones on Tuesday.
Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians, though Reuters notes that it has not been able to independently verify the damage reports.
