Farul Constanța Holds FC Argeș to 1-1 Draw, Coach Sabău Evaluates Performance

Farul Constanța played to a 1-1 draw against FC Argeș, achieving their fourth consecutive unbeaten match in the ongoing Superliga season.
Following the match, coach Ioan Ovidiu Sabău described the outcome as fair and assessed his team’s performance.
“It was a fair result, although we had opportunities to create clearer chances. The first half was quite good, with intensity. We followed our preparations and aimed to play quickly when we had the ball, while also ensuring not to allow them to play vertically, staying high up the field to counter their dangerous forwards,” Sabău stated.
The Farul coach outlined his strategy to neutralize FC Argeș’s strengths.
“We aimed to put them in situations where they are less comfortable. We counterattacked well and had several nice quick passes leading up to our goal. After we equalized, as long as we maintained our physical level against FC Argeș, we played on equal terms,” he added.
Challenges for Farul in the Second Half
However, Sabău noted a decline in pace during the second half, as FC Argeș seized control.
“In the second half, they picked up a different rhythm. We retreated too much. After four or five passes, we lost possession, and several players dropped in intensity. Three or four players requested substitutions due to cramps,” he remarked.
“This is also a problem for some players who barely played last year and suddenly found themselves playing a lot in such a short time over five matches. There was a strong desire evident in every player,” he explained.
Quality Players in Central Positions
Ioan Ovidiu Sabău acknowledged the challenge he expected from the match but expressed confidence in his team’s quality to challenge any opponent.
“I anticipated a tougher match. However, I have faith that we can create difficulties for them. I don’t want to disrespect anyone, but our players in central positions are of higher quality,” Sabău mentioned.
“FC Argeș has earned respect! This is how teams in Romania should be. All players need to give their best: to run and prepare physically. You need responsible players of character. When they step on the field, if they are a 7, they should perform as a 7, not drop to a 4 or 5. And FC Argeș does this very well,” he added.
A Transformed Team
Sabău is optimistic about Farul’s future, noting that his squad is gradually building confidence, despite significant roster changes.
“We are on the right path. I believe we are growing in dynamics and confidence because this team is completely changed. It is challenging to get them to play together and develop automatisms,” the coach said during the post-match conference.
The Constanța manager is convinced that, over time, Farul will evolve into a team capable of dominating and playing with more confidence.
“But little by little, I believe we can build a beautiful team, one that can truly dominate and have confidence. Then I can relax more on the sidelines,” concluded Ioan Ovidiu Sabău.
