Budimex has entered into a contract worth over 200 million PLN for the preparation of the site for Poland’s first nuclear power plant. The agreement was finalized on Wednesday.
Budimex Partners with Bechtel for Nuclear Power Plant Construction
On August 5, 2026, Budimex, one of the largest construction companies in Poland, signed an agreement with general contractor Bechtel Polska. This contract covers the execution of earthworks and site preparation for the nuclear facility.
- Preparing the site for the project
- Constructing temporary access and transport roads, parking areas, and material storage facilities
- Establishing temporary technical and social facilities
- Building temporary open ditches for rainwater drainage and implementing erosion and sedimentation control systems.
The contract, valued at nearly 209 million PLN net, is scheduled to be completed by August 18, 2028.
Timeline for Poland’s First Nuclear Power Plant Construction
On Wednesday, August 5, the transfer of the construction site to Bechtel in Choczewo is planned. This operation is supported by an existing interim agreement, known as the Engineering Development Agreement (EDA plus), which has been in place for some time.
The first nuclear power plant in Poland is set to be constructed in the Lubiatowo-Kopalino region of Pomerania. The investment is being managed by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, with technology supplied by the consortium of Westinghouse Electric Company and Bechtel, which will build three reactors using AP1000 technology.
This facility aims to enhance Poland’s energy security, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and gradually replace part of the energy production from coal-fired power plants. According to the current schedule, the first reactor is expected to commence commercial operations in the latter half of the 2030s.
