Keir Starmer Visits Kyiv Days Before Resignation to Reassure Support

Keir Starmer visits Kyiv, welcomed by Ukrainian officials

In a significant visit to Kyiv, Keir Starmer aims to reassure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom’s support will remain steadfast even after his imminent resignation. This meeting is set to take place just four days before Starmer departs from 10 Downing Street, with Andy Burnham expected to succeed him as Prime Minister.

During his visit, Starmer expressed pride in the contributions made by the UK, stating, “This work will continue, and our unwavering support for Ukraine will always be there. Not just for the sake of Ukraine and European security, but for British families as well.”

This diplomatic trip comes in the aftermath of a devastating Russian missile strike on Kyiv, which resulted in two fatalities and injuries to six others, highlighting the ongoing conflict’s impact on the region.

Starmer announced his resignation on June 22, following nearly two years in office. Reports have indicated that he is also considering a future role as NATO Secretary-General, a position that will become available in 2028.
