Iași Prepares for Two Weeks of Tennis with Concord Open and WTA 250

Iași is gearing up for an exciting two-week tennis event, starting this Sunday with the qualifications for the Concord Open, a challenger tournament, followed by a WTA 250 tournament. The organizers have finalized the last details for this annual competition.

The Concord Open will kick off on July 5 at the Ciric Sports Base and will run until July 12. This year marks its seventh edition, with top contenders including French player Valentin Royer (ATP 75), Croatian Dino Prizmic (ATP 82), and Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (ATP 105).

Romania will be represented by wildcards Cezar Crețu (ATP 272) and Radu Mihai Papoe (ATP 358). The third wildcard recipient will be announced before the main draw is finalized on Saturday at 7:00 PM.

The tournament boasts a total prize pool of €160,680. Last year’s winner, Denmark’s Elmer Moller, will return to defend his title on the clay courts of Iași. There will be two sessions each day, starting at 1:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

Additionally, the Concord Iași Open – Powered by MET held a pre-qualification tournament for players under 21, with matches taking place at the Ciric Sports Base. The winner, Matei Partal, earned a spot in the qualification rounds.

Top Female Players to Compete in Iași

The women’s tournament will take place from July 13 to 18 at the Ciric Sports Base, marking its fifth edition and classified as a WTA 250 event. Players such as Sorana Cîrstea, Jaqueline Cristian, Gabriela Ruse, and last year’s champion Irina Begu will be competing.

Moreover, organizers recently announced that former world number 2 Paula Badosa will receive an invitation, alongside Maja Chwalińska, a finalist at Roland Garros, who was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon.
