A three-year-old child was miraculously rescued six days after the earthquakes hit Venezuela, as reported by Jordan’s Civil Protection, which deployed a rescue team to the South American nation. The child received immediate medical attention and was swiftly transported to a hospital, according to Jordanian officials.
Death Toll Continues to Rise
The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has increased from 1,719 to 1,943, announced Jorge Rodriguez, the president of the National Assembly. He also revealed that the number of injured has nearly doubled, reaching 10,500, with over 15,000 people displaced.
“A total of 6,461 individuals have been rescued since the onset of the emergency caused by the two earthquakes,” Rodriguez stated on Tuesday, adding that around 30,000 people were in the La Guaira region, the hardest-hit area, at the time of the quakes. Furthermore, he estimated that when including the 13,400 people who managed to escape on their own or with assistance, approximately 19,861 lives were saved in La Guaira.
