Silvio Berlusconi’s Villa Certosa Sold for €350 Million to Qatari Investor

A notable real estate deal has taken place in Italy with the sale of Villa Certosa, the Sardinian property formerly owned by the late Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar, has purchased the villa for €350 million, as reported by Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

This transaction comes about a year after Berlusconi’s family listed the property for sale. Villa Certosa served as an unofficial summer residence for Berlusconi during his political tenure, gaining notoriety for the infamous “bunga-bunga” parties held there.

The parties, which have been a source of scandal, were linked to a legal case involving allegations of corruption and abuse of office against Berlusconi. He was ultimately acquitted, unlike Nicole Minetti, a former dental assistant and television personality, who was convicted for her involvement in procuring women for these events. This case drew attention to the current government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as noted by Politico.

Reports indicate that the buyer, Hamad bin Jassim, conducted the purchase through an investment vehicle based in Luxembourg, associated with the Al Thani family, who have ruled Qatar for over 150 years. This acquisition further solidifies the family’s growing presence in Sardinia, where they already have investments in luxury tourism assets and the Mater Olbia hospital.

The sale also aids in clarifying the financial legacy of Berlusconi, whose heirs have been managing the estate since his death in 2023. Among the largest inheritances left by Berlusconi are €100 million each for his former partner, Marta Fascina, and his brother, Paolo Berlusconi.
