Corporate torture has reached a new level: in China, a company kept an employee for almost a week in a small room without light, where there was only a table and a chair, in order to force him to resign “of his own free will.”
In December 2022, Chinese editor Liu Linzhu found that he could not log into his corporate account and his office pass stopped working.
The company said the employee needed to undergo “training.” To do this, they took his phone and took him to a room where there was no light, computers or colleagues, and the only furniture was a table and a chair. Liu could leave the room and return home. At the same time, he was not given any tasks during the working day.
Only after his wife contacted the police was the employee given his dismissal documents. A Sichuan court found the company guilty and ordered it to pay the ex-employee $52,200 as compensation for such torture.
