Alexandra Căpitănescu returned to the country after the Eurovision performance: “We are the winners of hearts” / “I hope that Romania supports its artists more”

“An important victory for us, as artists who are still developing”, was the sincere message sent by Alexandra Căpitănescu, on Sunday, at Otopeni Airport, in her first press conference after she and her bandmates placed 3rd at Eurovision 2026.
“I'm better at singing into a microphone than talking,” the 22-year-old artist said with a laugh at the start of the conference.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026, held in Vienna, was won by Bulgaria with 516 points, followed by Israel with 343 points. Romania, represented by Alexandra Căpitănescu and her bandmates with the song “Choke Me”, ranked 3rd, with 296 points. Of these, 232 came from the public, in whose preferences our country was in 2nd place.
Alexandra described the Eurovision experience as “extraordinarily beautiful, but also very difficult”.
“I'm glad that we placed 3rd and that we were the 2nd place in the audience, which means that we are, as they say in the past years, the winners of hearts – and I think that's much more important than some marks awarded. In general, it's very subjective this thing with giving marks to music and art, but I believe the most in what the audience feels and I think that the audience is always right, in everything, the audience's intuition is the strongest”, he explained Alexandra Capitanescu.
She thanked those who supported her and everyone involved, offering “one piece of advice for future entrants”.
“We wouldn't have been able to do this performance alone, and as an advice to future Eurovision participants, darlings, you need a team, you need people to put all your trust in, because you're alone,” the singer added.
“I hope that Romania supports its artists even more”
Alexandra Căpitănescu said that she and her bandmates are “artists who are still developing”.
“It remains a very important victory for us as artists – and as artists who are still developing, whose careers were still not very stable until a few days ago. What I can say is that we are just now starting to have work in the true sense of the word and concerts are coming. We really look forward to our concerts in the summer to watch us, we look forward to seeing you,” she continued.
The 3rd place winner at Eurovision urged Romania “to support its artists more”.
“I hope that Romania will support its artists even more, to understand that not all artists are the same and that every person is different, and that we do not function the same way. Let's give the artists permission to experiment, to be themselves! We think that this is how we won a lot when it comes to the international audience, because even when we entered the backstage (backstage, no) at Eurovision we were called “Romanian kids” (Romanian children, no)”, said Alexandra.
