Matei Popa (19 years old), the goalkeeper of the FCSBwill not perform in the play-off semi-final for the Conference League with FC Botosani. He will not be available even for a possible final with the 4th place in the play-off.

FCSB is preparing for the first round with a view to qualifying for the European Cups, but it will not be able to count on the services of the youngster Popa. In his place, the red-blue coach will rely on Ștefan Târnovanu.

Matei Popa, the “under” goalkeeper of the red-blues, could not continue in the match with Unirea Slobozia, which ended in a draw, score 0-0, after colliding with his own teammate, Joao Paulo.

Season over for Matei Popa: “He had a concussion”

It all happened in the 44th minute, when the visitors scored a goal later disallowed for offside. After a fixed phase from Ialomi, Matei Popa came out from between the stumps trying to box the ball, but collided violently with Joao Paulo.

Mihai Stoicathe official of the red-blues, claims that Matei Popa is currently out of any danger, he had a concussion, was taken to the hospital and is no longer a solution this season.

“Matei Popa is fine, because I had a terrible scare. He had a concussion, at half-time he didn't look well at all, he was taken to the hospital, all the investigations were done, he is going to have some neuro investigations.

I would be surprised if he still plays, he has nothing neurological, clear break“, said Mihai Stoica on the show “Fotbal Show” from Prima Sport.

Matei Popa played 14 matches this season for FCSB, conceding 16 goals and keeping 4 clean sheets. It is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 250,000 euros.

Ștefan Târnovanu will take his place in goal, and FCSB will have to use an U21 field player, most likely Alexandru Stoian.

How FCSB could look at the tie with FC Botoșani: Târnovanu – V. Crețu, Dawa, M. Popescu, Radunovic – F. Tănase, Joao Paulo – Cisotti, Olaru, Miculescu – Stoian
