From the events organized by CSA Steaua and BNR, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the conquest of the Champions Cup, Alexandra Duckadam, the wife of the hero from Seville, who died in December 2024, who in the final in Seville defended all 4 penalties executed by the players from FC Barcelona, was absent.
However, it is well known that Duckadam had broken relations with Steaua for many years, he was even the director of image at FCSB in the period 2010-2020.
Alexandra Duckadam: “I was not invited to the match, only to the BNR event”
Moreover, the former great goalkeeper had recently refused to participate in the May 7 anniversaries, organized by the group from Ghencea. And not infrequently he said, referring to the current Army team, that “FCSB is the real Star. They have nothing to do with our performance.”
Contacted by GSP.ro, Mrs. Alexandra Duckadam answered the phone and stated briefly that “I was not invited to the match, only to the BNR event. Anyway, I had planned this trip to Seville since winter, for my soul and my daughter's”. He did not provide any other details.
I also got in touch with the club in Ghencea, to clarify this topic related to the absence of Mrs. Duckadam from the two events organized on May 7, 2026.
And the head of the marketing and public relations section at CSA Steaua, lieutenant colonel Vladimir Bacsiș, explained to GSP.ro that: “When we organized the 40th anniversary of winning the Champions Cup, we sent the BNR the list of those who were to be invited to the event to present those commemorative coins.
Later, the BNR issued the invitations that we gave to everyone, including the descendants of Duckadam, Bălan, Bărbulescu, Ion Alecsandrescu. I mean to Mrs. Alexandra Duckadam, who answered us on whatsapp, ««Hello! Thank you, but I will not be able to participate, being away in Seville»»”.
CSA Steaua explains: “No special invitations have been made for the match, neither for former players nor for the descendants of the deceased”
Vladimir Bacsiș continued: “There was no one from Mr. Bărbulescu's side either, because his wife told us that her health did not allow her to come, and the boy was away abroad. However, the son of Lucian Bălan and Ion Alecsandrescu were present, who also came to the match.
We arranged for the BNR to bring all the guests to the stadium for the match and the festivities that followed. No special invitations were made for the match, neither for the former players nor for the descendants of the deceased.
It was self-evident that the invitation from the BNR was also for what followed in Ghencea. We also took over those special boxes for those who were absent. I actually got in touch with Mrs. Duckadam and let her know we'd be waiting for her at the club to hand her those commemorative coins.”
