Reversal of the situation in the case of footballers who refused to travel for the next match

The critical situation from the Iași Polytechnic, the club where the employees had not received their salaries for three months, was defused for the moment.

After the Iași players protested at the Saturday match, with Gloria Bistrita, from home, refusing to play in the first minute, and seven of them, the seniors Farcaș, Ofori, Umar, Camara, George Gligor and the “unders” Opriș and A. Dumitru, announced on Monday that they would not go to the last match of this season on Saturday, in Slatina, Poli found the formula to calm the spirits.

First at the Superliga level

Everything was possible as a result of a new financial injection made by the Botošan businessman Cornel Șfaițer. The information was presented by the manager of the Polytechnic, Florin Briaur.

“Mr. Şfaițer considered that the players' dedication deserves to be rewarded through a consistent premium, above the level of the First Leaguealso paying part of the outstanding salaries of the employees”, he declared.

Poli risked not getting his license

Briaur also added that Şfaițer made other payments at critical moments.

“In the winter, Mr. Şfaițer announced to us that he no longer has a way to financially support the Polytechnic, neither through loans nor through non-refundable payments, as he has done in recent years.

However, given that the club's sponsorship promises made by some local partners did not materialize, Mr. Șfaițer consistently contributed to the payment of salaries for the month of December 2025. If those payments were not made, we would not take the license. At the same time, his lordship secured the funds without which we could not attend this year's away matches and we could not organize the home ones”.

“Without Şfaiţer, we were bankrupt for a long time”

Briaur also said that Poli had been bankrupt for a long time without Şfaițer.

“As usual, Mr. Șfaițer, who transferred the money since last week, but some banking problems, caused by insolvency, made it difficult to make payments until Wednesday, wanted to be discreet on this topic. Therefore, I don't even want to say how much money he gave now and this year.

But I say publicly that Mr. Șfaițer, even though he is from Botoșan, gave more money to the club this year than all the businessmen from Iasi put together! And without Mr. Șfaițer, who did not have a salary at the club and got the club out of hopeless situations a few times, Politehnica Iasi was bankrupt for a long time!

No no show

The manager of the Polytechnic also said that the option of not showing up for the match in Slatina was not considered.

“Regarding the exit of coach Tibi Selymes in which it was brought up about not showing up at Slatina, not for a second did the club consider that. Before the last trip, from Buzău, I told the basic players that they can go on vacation earlier.

Some left, some stayed. At Slatina we will have eight seniors, including the team captain, Ștefanovici, the team veteran, Niga, or a national team player, Elo. Even if there were still departures among the basic people, we went with the juniors to Slatina, but we still showed up for the match.”
