KrasRussian Railways sent an experimental giant train with coal from the Republic of Khakassia to the Trans-Baikal Territory

The Krasnoyarsk Railway sent the first giant coal train weighing 8,000 tons eastward from the Chernogorskie Kopi station (Khakassia). The experimental trip is carried out as part of traction and energy tests of Russian Railways to increase the weight of freight trains at the Eastern training ground.
Previously, the maximum weight of freight trains formed at KrasRussian Railways stations in Khakassia was 7,100 tons.
The coal heavyweight drives the powerful 4-section locomotive Ermak. The train consists of innovative gondola cars with increased carrying capacity. The train will follow a 2,452 km route to Karymskaya station (Trans-Baikal Territory).
It will pass through sections of the Eastern training ground with difficult terrain. In particular, he will have to overcome three mountain passes, where pushing locomotives are used to increase traction. One of them is the Dzheb – Shchetinkino section on the southern route of the Krasnoyarsk Railway Mezhdurechensk – Taishet: the elevation difference is 220 m.
The locomotive crews involved in the tests received additional training in driving heavy trains in difficult geological conditions.
The experimental train is accompanied by the traction and energy laboratory of Russian Railways, which throughout the entire route will record the performance of the electric locomotive engines, contact network and traction substations under increased loads.
The tests are being carried out under the program for the development of heavy freight traffic on the railways of the Eastern range. This technology makes it possible to increase the volume of cargo transportation on the existing infrastructure without increasing the number of trains. As a result, the throughput and carrying capacity of the most popular destinations is increased.
