It's official. Leicester were relegated from the Championship to League One, English football's third tier, on Tuesday, just a decade after achieving the “impossible” and winning the Premier League.

Leicester needed to beat Hull City at home to keep their Championship hopes alive, but that didn't happen and they joined Sheffield Wednesday among the relegated teams from the second division. With two games left in this Championship, Leicester are 23rd on 42 points, 7 behind Blackburn, the first team above the line.

Rowett's side found themselves in charge from the 18th minute when Hull City opened the scoring through Millar following a mistake by Begovic. However, the hosts managed to turn the score around within just two minutes at the start of the second half.

Jordan James converted a penalty (52'), and Luke Thomas brought the advantage after a pass received from Cordova-Reid (54') in the next phase. The answer came shortly. In the 63rd minute, McBurnie scored to make it 2-2 from a counter-attack and left the King Power Stadium silent.

The hosts tried to react and were very close to regaining the advantage in the last phase of the match, in the 90+7' minute, but the goalkeeper had an extraordinary intervention. Immediately after the final whistle, the disappointment in the stands and on the pitch was evident, with several players breaking down in tears.

The 2015-2016 season produced a historic surprise in the Premier League when Leicester City managed to become the champions of England. The previous season, the “foxes” managed an incredible rescue from relegation, having collected just 10 points in the first 17 stages.

With 23 wins, 12 draws and only 3 defeats, Leicester was crowned the “queen” of the Premier League, finishing the season with 81 points.
