Fabio Capello immediately jumped to help him, while moderator Federica Masolin came over to pat him on the head. It was the journalist herself who admitted shortly after: “It's a prank“.
It all started with a comment made by Masolin about the quarter-finals of the Champions League. This bitterly underlined the difference in level and, above all, pace compared to Italian football.
“We have seen an incredible level, some express it through high-class football, others have managed to eliminate Barcelona and are doing very well, and some, like Arsenal, are fighting on two fronts, one of which is the Premier League… Any way you look at it, the ball travels three times faster than in our championship. When will our teams reach that level?“, she asked Di Canio, according to fanpage.it.
The former footballer flinched at the question: “Are you challenging me now? You want to make me sad… is this a challenge?.” Then he hit the table with his head three times quite hard, immediately bringing his hand to his forehead: “I hit myself“.
Fabio Capello got up to offer him help and Federica Masolin went to stroke his head.
Capello instantly stood up to offer him a handkerchief to wipe away the blood that wasn't there “Thanks mystery, I really hit it offDi Canio said.
“You provoked me, I break my headDi Canio said to Masolin, who was laughing out loud.I hurt myself, I'm not kidding“, he continued. Federica then stood up in her turn to hug and comfort the former Lazio forward.
“I am angry with our football,” continued Di Canio. “Mom, what a bump…I'm full of venom.”
The evening ended with the clarification offered by Federica Masolin, who revealed that it was all a stage: “Okay, I'm going to get you some ice… and we'll reveal the mystery, nothing happened. It's a prank“.
