The month of March came as a veritable emotional carousel for Romanian football: the most exciting Super League season in history, but also another big disappointment for the national team, which will also see the World Cup on TV. The time has come to officially open the voting procedure for GSP.ro readers, who will choose, once again, “Player of the month” and “Coach of the month” March 2026.

It was madness at the end of the regular season, calculations on the edge of a knife and a spectacular qualification for FC Argeș in the play-offs. At the same time, FCSB was pushed into the second half of the standings, with the champions missing the play-offs for the first time in history.

Each stage rewrote the standings and overturned predictions, in a season finale that held fans' breath until the very last moment. In the play-offs, the show reached new heights: lead changes from one round to the next, fabulous goals and inspired coaches who decisively moved from the shadows.

The leaderboard is in constant transformation, and the tension increases with every minute played. In contrast, the national team missed out on qualifying for the World Cup after failing and being eliminated from the match against Turkey.

So, the time has come to open the online voting procedures for “February Player of the Month” and “February Coach of the Month”, where GSP.ro readers can choose their favorites!

Player of the month March 2026 – nominations

For the “March Player of the Month” trophy, Gazeta nominated 5 footballers:

  • Oucasse Mendy (U Cluj). The 24-year-old Frenchman, who arrived from Louviere, is a thoroughbred striker and March was the perfect month to show his class. He paraded in the Super League, and the fact that the University finished the month in first place is due to him. Goals with Hermannstadt (in the Cup), with FCSB and CFR Cluj, but also two decisive assists in Bucharest, in front of the champion, as well as one in the Cluj derby, with the big rival from the city.
  • Aurelian Chițu (Hermannstadt). Even if the Sibiu are struggling to escape relegation, in a nightmare year, Chițu steps out and brings a breath of oxygen to the locker room. In March, he helped his team with three goals, against Oțelui, UTA Arad and FC Botoşani, being noted in all the games by more than 7 specialized websites. The decisive pass in the 3-0 victory against FC Botoșani, when he was the MVP of the game, is also worth noting.
  • Issouf Macalou (U Cluj). It's a fierce battle on the banks of the Someș for the title of the best Cluj player in the Superliga! The striker in Bergodi's team made a sensation: two goals (with Hermannstadt, in the Cup, and with FCSB, in the championship), plus three decisive assists in two victories to put in the frame. A “double” with FCSB, but also another assist in the derby won in extra time with CFR Cluj. Twice named the best player on the field.
  • Stefan Baiaram (U Craiova). The “Lion” from Bănie is pulling the team after him in the race for a new title, after a 35-year break in the city. In March, he scored a goal in the 3-1 victory against CFR Cluj, in the Romanian Cup, plus two decisive assists in the matches against Rapid and Dinamo. The good developments also earned him a call-up to the national team for the World Cup qualifier, but the selector only sent him on the field towards the end, without being able to influence the duel with Turkey.
  • Meriton Korenica (CFR Cluj). “The railways” from Gruia press the accelerator pedal and want to take the face of their rivals in the play-off. In the last month, Pancu and his team also benefited from Korenica's contributions: the winning goal in the match with Rapid, in Cluj, plus two decisive assists in the matches with Dinamo and Cluj University. The man of the match with Rapid, the Kosovar also got the national team for the World Cup qualifiers.

On the preliminary list there were also: Adel Bettaieb (FC Argeș), Marton Eppel (Csikszereda), Hakim Abdallah (Ato Arad), Jovo Lukic (Cluj University) and Valentin Robu (Metalul Buzău).

Coach of the month March 2026 – nominations

For the “March Coach of the Month” trophy, Gazeta nominated 3 technicians:

  • Cristiano Bergodi (U Cluj). The Italian is in first place in the play-offs, being the only one who did not lose a single match in March. Wins on the line with FCSB, CFR Cluj and FC Argeș, plus qualification to the semifinals of the Romanian Cup, after another success, with Hermannstadt. Bergodi has radically transformed the University and, after being one step away from getting his hands on the title with Craiova, now he wants to go down in history and award his first title with the “red caps”.
  • Florin Bratu (Metaloglobus). With the knife to the bone and almost with both feet in the precipice of relegation, Bratu took Teja's place and tries the impossible at the small team from Bucharest. Since he came to Metaloglobus, he hasn't lost a single match! Draws with UTA Arad and FCSB, plus a narrow victory, from the penalty, with Petrolul. The schedule is hellish, the chances are minimal, but Bratu has the spirit of a fighter and does not give up.
  • Bogdan Andone (FC Arges). March brought the victory with Dinamo and the historic play-off qualification, for the first time when a newly promoted team achieves this. The plans are big in Pitesti, and Andone transforms himself during the matches, the players conforming perfectly to his requirements. Victory with Craiova, draw with Slobozia and a defeat with U Cluj are the results of the last month. Qualification in the quarter-finals of the Cup is also added, after a match with overtime.
