The Katowice-based PGO company has declared its readiness to produce metal bodies for 120 mm caliber bullets – used, among others, by Rak mortars. According to the company, production of up to 40,000 is currently possible. forged components per year.

PGO SA announced that it was ready to produce bodies for 120 mm projectiles in a press release sent to PAP on Tuesday. As we read, this concerns, among others: o the launch of modern equipment for the production of components for medium and large caliber ammunition in the Kuźnia Glinik plant in Gorlice (Lesser Poland Voivodeship) in recent weeks.
“They support the production of important elements for 155 mm bullets, as well as the new production of 120 mm shells. The steel forging technology used complies with NATO standards and is currently the most proven, preferred and widely used method of producing critical ammunition components,” assures PGO.
According to the company's information, the current nominal production capacity of PGO bodies is approx. 40,000. forged components per year, with the possibility – as assured – of further expansion. – This is another strategic step in the national program for the reconstruction and development of ammunition capabilities, and at the same time an important element of the path leading to the launch of the production of the first domestic 155 mm artillery shell in Poland, on which the Company is working together with the Military Institute of Armament Technology – emphasizes the company.
As for 155 mm ammunition – standard NATO ammunition used, among others, in the Krab and K9 gun howitzers – the plants are planning the first technological tests of forging 155 mm bodies for the second quarter of this year. – However, the production of 120 mm bodies can start now; the plant is fully technologically ready, the company declares.
As assured, bodies for 120 mm bullets are designed in accordance with the requirements applicable in the armies of NATO countries and meet key parameters. – Optimized production technology in plants belonging to PGO SA guarantees, among others, dimensional and mass repeatability of bullet bodies, as well as the possibility of scaling production in order to quickly increase supply while maintaining quality parameters – the company also ensures.
Increasing the capacity to produce ammunition – including 155 mm artillery, but also the smaller 120 mm caliber – is currently one of the key tasks for the Polish arms industry; ready-made missiles are to be produced primarily by companies belonging to the state-owned Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa – including Nitro-Chem, but also MESKO, Dezamet and Gamrat, which received state support for the expansion of their factories.
However, the production of bullets requires components of appropriate quality – including gunpowder and explosives, but also, among others, metal shells that meet the appropriate conditions. PGO, one of the largest metal companies in the industry in Poland, is currently developing its production capabilities; according to the declaration from September last year, the bodies it produces will in the future be delivered to producers of ready-made missiles, including companies from PGZ.
