The German explained how his team managed to beat Newcastle, after a fairly balanced first half at Camp Nou. Hansi Flick explained that he tried to push the English on the defensive to nullify their main qualities.
Hansi Flick reacted after Barcelona – Newcastle 7-2: “They have fantastic speed and a very good transition”
“I'm happy. The first half wasn't necessarily a struggle, but I think we made a lot of mistakes. We wanted to change that in the second half and it was much better. We controlled the game more, that was the plan.
We wanted to keep Newcastle in a low defensive block. It was good what we did in the second half. That's what we discussed at halftime, let's push them into their half. Let's have more control of the match.
They have fantastic speed and transition very well. In the first half we made a lot of mistakes because we wanted to play with the long ball in attack. We were not that clear, in the second half it was much better, much more organized.
We have a young team and we always want to attack more, play up front. We have to learn and that's what we will do. Sometimes the older ones keep them in check, but let's look at Raphinha: he also likes to attack, run and push the team,” Hansi Flick told TNT Sports.
Barcelona have only scored 7 goals in the Champions League three times in their history: 7-1 against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 in the round of 16 and a 7-0 against Celtic in September 2016 in the group stage.
