On Thursday evening, the matches in the round leg of the UEFA Conference League final “eighties” were played. Three Romanians also performed in this phase of the competition: Răzvan Marin (AEK Athens), Andrei Rațiu (Rayo Vallecano) and Bogdan Racovițan (Rakow).

The return of the final “eight” is scheduled for Thursday, March 19.

At the matches scheduled from 19:45, the only Romanian on the field was Andrei Rațiu. The Rayo Vallecano right-back started in his team's 3-1 victory. The Spaniards opened the scoring, were tied, but managed to pull away at the end, setting up an important victory before the return leg in Spain.

In the other games in this period, AZ Alkmaar won 2-1 against Sparta Prague, Shakhtar Donetsk won 3-1 at Lech Poznan and Strasbourg beat the Croatian team Rijeka away, score 2-1

Răzvan Marin, two decisive assists in Slovenia

The last four games of the evening took place from 22:00. AEK Athens traveled to Slovenia for the duel with Celje, and the Greeks won decisively, score 4-0.

Romanian international Răzvan Marin was one of the best players of the game, providing two decisive assists, on his team's first and fourth goals. Thanks to the success, the Romanian midfielder's team has a good chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the competition, with the return to be played in Greece.

In the other match with a Romanian international on the field, Rakow Czestochowa, Bogdan Racovițan's team lost with a score of 1-2 on the field of the Italians from Fiorentina.

The Poles opened the scoring, but the advantage lasted only two minutes, with the Serie A team restoring parity in the 62nd minute. In the 90th+3rd minute, Patryk Makuch touched the ball with his hand in his own box and committed a penalty. Gudmundsson converted and Fiorentina secured a victory in the double leg round.

The other two games of the evening ended without goals: Crystal Palace – AEK Larnaca 0-0 and Sigma Olomouc – Mainz 0-0the Germans having a goal disallowed in the 90th+7th minute, after VAR intervention.
