Inter prevailed at the limit in the first Derby D'Italia of 2026, 3-2 at home with Juventusand moved eight lengths clear at the top of the Serie A standings. The match in Milan was a real roller-coaster, also marked by a serious refereeing error.

The beginning of the match belonged to the “Bianconeri”, who constantly pressed on Sommer's goal, but Chivu's defense resisted the attacks launched by Luciano Spalletti's students.

Andrea Cambiaso, angel and demon for Juventus in the first half

What's more, totally against the course of the game, the Serie A leader managed to open the scoring. In the 18th minute of the derby from Giuseppe Meazza, the hosts took the lead, thanks to an own goal by Andrea Cambiaso, who deflected the Brazilian Luis Henrique's cross into his own goal.

However, the Italian defender got his revenge nine minutes later when he managed to score again, but this time, he did it in the right goal. Escaped from Bisseck's marker, Cambiaso beat Sommer from inside the box, thus becoming the first player in Serie A history to score for both teams in a single half in a Derby D'Italia.

Inter hit the bar twice in the same phase + Alessandro Bastoni, a serious contender to win the Oscar

The most important moments of the first act, however, happened at the end, precisely in the 42nd minute, when two incredible events took place.

First, the hosts missed a triple chance to regain the lead. Marcus Thuram resumed with a header towards Di Gregorio's goal, the Juventus goalkeeper managed to repel, and then Inter's footballers hit the crossbar twice. Later, the ball was released from the Torinese box and the game moved to the Nerazzurri's half.

And here, for sure, the hottest moment of the game took place, the protagonist being none other than the “central” Federico La Penna. The Italian referee left Juventus in 10 after a so-called duel between Pierre Kalulu and Alessandro Bastoni, after which the “old lady” defender saw a second yellow card and was sent off.

The visitors vehemently contested this decision, being completely right, as Kalulu did not touch Bastoni, who dived spectacularly and managed to fool La Penna. However, Juventus' problem was represented by the fact that the VAR could not reverse the decision, because it was not a red card awarded directly, but about the accumulation of two yellow cards, and thus, Spalletti's team remained numerically inferior since the end of the first half.

Chivu played everything on the attack card, and the “child of the soul” rewarded him!

As expected, in the second half of the match Inter forced, trying to take advantage of the opponent's man down.

Juventus only counted in attack immediately after the restart, a phase in which Sommer saved his side three times after shots from Cambiaso, Miretti and Weston McKennie.

Afterwards, Chivu made offensive changes, playing at the end even with three genuine forwards. Along with Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, who started from the beginning, the Romanian technician also introduced Pio Esposito, the player he has worked with since the time when he was coaching Inter's junior teams, and the young striker was the one who brought the Milanese back to the advantage.

Chivu's 'soul child' made it 2-1 in the 76th minute, heading home Di Gregorio after Federico Dimarco's textbook cross.

However, Juventus did not give in and managed to score once more, even when outnumbered. This time through captain Manuel Locatelli, who took advantage of the home side's defensive error and scored in Sommer's goal from inside the box with a shot to the far corner, restoring parity on the scoreboard again.

Zielinski brought victory to Inter in the 90th minute and Chivu's team remains the clear leader in Serie A!

Even so, the vice-champion of Italy and Europe managed to win. It was Piotr Zielinski who gave Inter the victory, scoring in the 90th minute from outside the box, at which point the whole stadium erupted. Chivu didn't hold back either, the Romanian celebrating the winning goal with his students in front of his own supporters.

Following this result, the “nerazzurri” have accumulated 61 points and are again 8 lengths away from their great rival Milan, the second place holder, respectively 12 points away from the champion Napoli. It is important to note, however, that the leader from Italy has an extra match played.

On the other hand, the Turinese stayed at the post with number 46 and missed the chance to climb into the TOP 4.
