Lindsey Vonn, one of the greatest skiers in history, has been turning heads on Instagram after joining the viral “2016” trend where celebrities post pictures from nearly a decade ago. The 41-year-old American athlete has published no less than 20 photos since 2016, and the reactions were not slow to appear.

Among the images is a photo taken for Sports Illustrated in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in which Vonn appears on the beach wearing only the bottom of a bathing suit with her back to the camera. The photo quickly went viral and generated thousands of likes and comments.

The post also included other memorable moments from that year:

  • the celebration of a victory in Cortina d'Ampezzo,

  • intense training in the mountains of Italy,

  • but also an original image in which Lindsey does pull-ups, completely covered in body paint.

The reactions didn't just come from fans. Former tennis player Caroline Wozniacki commented on the post: “Our body paint session!! Also, you haven't aged a day!!!”

An up-and-down year for Vonn

Although 2016 was full of spectacular moments, it was not a year without difficulties for Lindsey Vonn. In February, the athlete suffered a serious accident in Andorra, which required drainage of the knee, according to international media.

Lindsey Vonn is currently preparing for her fifth appearance at the Winter Olympics, which begin next month. Although she retired twice, the American is going through an excellent period again:

Last month, she became the oldest winner of a World Cup downhill race in St. Moritz, the first victory since 2018

Recently, Vonn finished second in the Super-G race in Tarvisio (Italy) in difficult visibility conditions. Dense fog at the top of the slope put the skiers' orientation to the test, but the American managed a new top result, ticking off the seventh podium in eight races contested this season.
