An epic main group is shaping up at the European Men's Handball Championship following Monday's results. France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Norway and one between Portugal and North Macedonia they will fight for the two places leading to the semi-finals.

  • North Macedonia – Romania, the last match of the “tricolors” at Euro 2026, is scheduled for Tuesday, from 19:00, liveTEXT on GSP.ro. It will not be on TV in Romania, only on the Voyo streaming platform.

Group A: Germany survived!

Serbia ran out of steam in the win over Germany and crashed out in the decider against Austria, falling 25-26. The two took turns leading until the last quarter of an hour, when the Austrian defense made the difference.

Today I felt the pressure of the result and I didn't play as well. We managed to stay in the match until the final sequences, we fought for the victory. We made too many mistakes in the second half. They broke away at 3-4 goals, it was a complicated comeback race

– Raul Gonzalez, the coach of Serbia

Suddenly, the calculations changed for the Germans. From a must win by at least 3 goals, Germany also qualifies with a draw. But Alfred Gislason and his students left nothing to chance. Spain led until 2-1, then steadily chased the equaliser. One that I did not touch!

The Germans also scored on the artistic impression. In the 51st minute they completed a magnificent action. Successive on the extreme left, pass with the gaze turned directly to the other extreme, for the “aerial” of Uscins. The same Renars Uscins, appointed MPV, calmed the final. An exceptional meander, goal number 8, followed by a defensive recovery.

We are very disappointed. We set out to go into the main group with two points, we didn't achieve that. Today it didn't work defensively. We got easy goals from 9 yards, from 7 yards, from everywhere. We should have been more aggressive! That's it, the road got a little complicated, but nothing is lost

– Ian Tarrafeta, Spain coordinator

Germany won 34-32. From a position with his back against the wall, he will reach the main group with two points and will continue to dream of the semi-finals!

Group C: record qualification for France

The first match of the day in group C was one of pride. Ukraine looked better than in the first two games, losses by historic scores, but fell to the Czech Republic, 29-38. The Czechs finished in 3rd place.

We were prepared for today's match, we changed the defensive system, but bad luck hit us. Two key defensive players got injured, we didn't have the same tempo with the changes between the two phases. The conclusions of the tournament? It was a great experience for us. We have a young team and we will continue to progress

– Vadym Brazhnyk, Ukraine coach

Meanwhile, the Unity Arena in Oslo was filled and buzzing in anticipation of the first blockbuster of the tournament. France, the gold medalists from two years ago, impressed offensively in the opening 30 minutes. He hit from all areas of the court and took a 20-17 advantage at halftime. This despite the precision of Kevin Gulliksen (4/4) and 4 other successes signed by the star Sander Sagosen.

What an atmosphere, what a rhythm! He also played fantastically in the second half, a triumph for the national team prepared by Guillaume Gille. France finished the group with the best goal difference ever recorded at a European Championship and goes with two points in the next phase.

Group E: Sweden – Croatia, for the “golden” points

Regardless of problems, withdrawals from the team, injuries, Croatia manages to find its form at the start of the final tournaments. The Croatians easily defeated the Netherlands, score 35-29, and got the ticket for the next phase. This without the help of the goal, Dominik Kuzmanovic having only 8 interventions from 35 throws faced. The best scorer of the game was Ivan Martinovic, 9 goals.

At home in Malmo, Sweden needed a quick time-out to recover from the clutches of Georgia. From 8-6 in favor of the Georgian marathoners, a team that looks good physically, the half ended 20-15 for the favorites.

The Nordics kept the pace, scored through 13 different handball players and prevailed 38-29.

Sweden and Croatia are already qualified. They will face each other in the last round for the precious two points that would bring them closer to the semi-finals.
