New large-scale emissions of fuel oil on the coast of the Krasnodar Territory are expected on Friday.
Scientists tracked the wind using images from space and said that on Thursday the northwest flow will change to a southerly flow and the oil product will be dragged towards the shore.
The substance is currently being collected along a 50-kilometer-long coastline. In some places the layer of fuel on the sand reaches 20 centimeters. Volunteers have already collected about 80 tons of oil products and cleaned up about eight kilometers of the Black Sea coast. At the same time, volunteers and a team of doctors are working together to save birds. A monitoring group is searching for injured animals. Birds are literally washed clean of fuel oil. 30 birdies are already safe.
