Logical and illogical in SuperLiga

Article by Mihai Mironică – Published Tuesday, December 23, 2025, 1:43 p.m. / Updated Tuesday, December 23, 2025, 1:44 p.m.

Big upset among some Dynamo supporters when I said at GSP Live, before this last stage, that Dinamo does not seem to me to be the best team in Romania and that that is Craiova University. And here came the last round matches and they kind of settled things, Craiova leading, Dinamo on 4th. Just a great Dynamo fan, Adi Mihalcea, came to support me with the most solid argument, taking Dinamo up with his UTA, which is so financially strapped.

Dinamo is fine and “growing organically”, as they say at the most corporate club in the SuperLigă. However, a new peak could very well catch him, one that combines what Karamoko and Perica are good at.

Look how beautifully Al Hamlawi finishes with goals in this last game of the year. The left with which Csikszereda's keeper beat was a marvel, and I feel like declaring Tudor Băluță as the scout of the year at the peak he recommended to Craiova in this crisis of strikers.

Rapid has half a title team

And the strongest image of this peak crisis is given by Rapid. The flamboyant Petrila ended up taking all the weight of Rapid's attack on his shoulders, as was seen in the recent derby with FCSB.

Gâlca committed blasphemy when he publicly said that his batch is more about quantity and not quality. No coach can mentally sabotage his team in the middle of the season like that. Except that, really, Rapid only has a title batch in some places, like Aioani, Ciobotariu, Christensen, Dobre, Petrila. Too little for the “charm of life” to bring the title back to Giulesti after 23 years.

The charm of the Super League is also given by the anomaly of the contrast between the speech of the coaches from the second and the ninth in the ranking. Gâlcă is calling for new players to fight for the “top places”, to take on the exact ambiguity of the objective he claimed, while at FCSB Charalambous, the de iure coach, and Becali, the de facto coach, are talking about conquering the Great Chalice. Well, from Japan to England, from Argentina to France, where do you see such a superb reversal of the poles as in the Super League? Nowhere.

FCSB, on 9 points, on 1 optimism

Is the overflowing optimism coming from the champion still exiled in 9th place justified?

“We are the best in Romania”, declares the king of penalties, Tănase. “We will be in first place right from the end of the regular season”, adds the king of exaggerations, Becali. “I want a new title this season”, says even the king of platitudes, Charalambous.

Recent wins against Feyenoord and Rapid make you think that the biggest miracle in our league's history is possible: a team in 9th place midway through the season to be champions at the end of that season. Moreover, FCSB seems to have gone with sunscreen too when you see the red card Şerbănica gets when playing against the champion and the red card Graovac doesn't get when he penalizes Petrila.

The holder of the belt, Gigi Becali, grants the challenger status only to Craiova. That would be logical, for the only Romanian teams with performances in European cups this season to make the law at home. But football is the most beautiful sport also because it deviates most often from logic. Merry Christmas and don't forget: we have had and will always have a passion for our football!
