Ambrosimov day
This day commemorates Saint Ambrose of Milan, who lived in the 4th century in Italy and served as a bishop of the Christian Church.
In Rus', with Ambrose, they began to prepare for one of the main holidays – the Nativity of Christ. “Amvrosy stayed with Nikola and instilled faith in the girls’ souls: Christmastide is just around the corner,” people said. There were no other major holidays before Christmas, and this day brought a symbolic end to the holidays of the outgoing year. “Ambrose threw away the holidays,” people said.
On this day, the girls began to sew – “for the future life”, preparing a dowry for themselves. “The red silken scurry across the silver field – the girl sews for a living,” the parents admired the craftswomen.
