The plane crash in Washington could be the worst in the United States in the last 15 years.
The last major emergency involving passenger aircraft in the country occurred more than 10 years ago. On January 6, 2013, an Asiana Airlines plane crashed in San Francisco, killing three and injuring 187 people. The last major disaster with a large number of deaths occurred on February 12, 2009: a Colgan Air plane crashed in New York. All 49 people on board and one person on the ground were killed.
Now at least 300 people are involved in the operation at the scene of the tragedy – it will last many more hours due to bad weather. Everything is complicated by the cold water in the Potomac River.
The cause could be a dispatcher error. The plane did not give a signal and began to descend while the military flew past at the same altitude.
