“Did you think that I would support Russian aggression?”: 11 Russian programs…

⚡️“Did you think that I would support Russian aggression?”: 11 Russian programmers were removed from the list of Linux kernel developers – they helped develop the operating system. The reason for removal was given fulfilling “various compliance requirements”, that is, certain legal requirements.
Creator of the Linux kernel Linus Torvalds got in touch and said it was not a mistake. The whole point of his message in the last two paragraphs:

Ok, a lot of Russian trolls have become active.
It's crystal clear why this change was made, no one is going to reverse it, and using a bunch of random anonymous accounts to try to build “popular support” using Russian troll farms isn't going to change anything.
And just for the information of innocent observers who are not troll farm accounts, the “different compliance requirements” are not exclusive to the US.
If you haven't heard about sanctions against Russia yet, you should read the news sometime. And by “news” I don't mean spam sponsored by the Russian state.
As for sending me a patch to roll back the changes – please use what you call your brains. I'm Finnish. Did you think I would *support* Russian aggression? It seems that the problem is not only a lack of real news, but also a lack of knowledge of history.

One of the suspended programmers Alexander Shiyan commented on the situation like this:

I really don’t care whether I’m on the list or not… But the situation itself makes me think about possible alternatives to Linux, because if this works now, then there may be a worse continuation. In the kernel code, if you dig around, you can find many drivers indicating the authors who have an address in the RU zone. How will they act here? If the mentions are removed, then all the words about open licenses were empty words.
