More than 600 historic objects have been stolen from a museum in Bristol. Four suspects, wanted by the police

Over 600 items with “significant cultural value” were stolen in September from the collections of a museum in Bristol, southwest England, British police announced Thursday. Authorities are looking for four suspects and have asked for the public's help in identifying them.

The police published images captured by the surveillance cameras, in which the four men appear on the street. They broke into the museum on the night of September 25, between 01:00 and 02:00, in a building that houses the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum collection in Bristol, England.

“The theft of these numerous objects of significant cultural value is a considerable loss to the city“, said Dan Burgan, the policeman leading the investigation, quoted by Agerpres.

“These objects, many of which have been donated to the museum, form part of a collection that provides an insight into a complex part of British history and we hope the public can help us to bring those responsible to justice“, he added.

Ongoing investigations

“To date, our investigation has focused on surveillance footage and forensic investigations”Burgan continued. “If you recognize the men in the photos or have seen any of the potentially stolen items ssew for sale online please call us”he also said.

The British Empire and Commonwealth Collection is held by Bristol Archives and Bristol Museums. It documents Britain's links with the countries of the former British Empire from the late 19th century to the present day and includes personal items, memorabilia, photographs and documents of Britons who lived and worked in the colonies, according to the museum's website.
