The Barcelona winger, Lamine Yamal (18 years old), gave an extensive interview to the American channel CBS News, during the show “60 minutes”
Lamine Yamal does not want to hear a comparison with Lionel Messi, although, for him, the Argentine is the best player in the history of football. “I respect him for what he was and what he represents for football. If we ever meet on a football field, there will be that mutual respect.
For me, he is the best in history. We both know I don't want to be Messi, I want to follow my own path. I have no intention of playing like him or wearing the number 10 that Messi wore or anything like that,” Lamine told CBS News Americans.
Lamine Yamal characterized his play style: “Fun!”
Asked how he would define his style of play, the Barcelona star didn't think twice. “Fun, that's the word. At the end of the day, I play for people to have fun. I'm an athlete who entertains, and my goal is not to break all the world records, score a million goals or make a million dribbles.
I want to have fun and I want the kids to want to be like me. Obviously, if I score a lot of goals, so much the better, but I think football means more than that”, is Yamal's opinion.
His great love? “Football is the first love of my life and always will be, it means everything in the end. My friends are in love with football, me, my mother, my father. It's everything in my life and it will always be there, in my soul,” the Spanish international confessed.
Lamine Yamal doesn't want to drive a Lamborghini!
He also revealed to CBS News his favorite goals so far: “I really liked the goal I scored against France at the 2024 European Championship and also the one I scored against FC Bruges.”
An interesting answer was given by Lamine when asked what car he would like to drive. “I want to feel that freedom of being able to drive alone. My car will be one that all my friends would want and be able to enjoy. But it won't be a Lamborghini. I would be happy with an Audi, a Mercedes or a Cupra“, he admitted.
It was a strange feeling, because the possibility of playing for Morocco was definitely in my mind. Also then, Morocco reached the semifinals of the World Cup, but when it came down to it, I never had any doubts, with all my affection and respect for Morocco.
I have always wanted to play in a European Championship and I think European football is more followed. I will always have affection for Morocco. It's also my country and it wouldn't have been weird or bad to play for them. But in the end there was the disadvantage that Spain played in the European Championship, I grew up in Spain and I feel it is my country too
