The Minister of Health sends the Control Body to the clinic of doctor Marek Vâlcu / Snoop wrote that the surgeon of the stars performs ENT operations, without an ENT specialty, and requires patients not to go to court

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced that he will send the Control Corps and the Sanitary Inspection to the clinic of Marek Vâlcu, about whom the investigative site Snoop.ro wrote that he performed resections of the nasal horn and septoplasties, although the doctor does not have the necessary ENT specialization in this regard.

On Monday, in a press conference, the minister said that he had seen “the information from the public space” and would “ask the Romanian College of Physicians to self-report as quickly as possible” in this regard.

“I will send the State Sanitary Inspection and the Control Body to this private clinic to check what the interventions were and under what conditions and whether or not the minimum legislative conditions for the operation of such a clinic are respected. I have no additional data at this moment,” said Alexandru Rogobete, quoted by Agerpres.

The Minister of Health said that the controls in the clinics to check compliance with the rules have not been stopped.

“Those controls continue, they have not been interrupted at all, I think that in two weeks we will have a final report. It was the biggest control since the Revolution, I could say, when the team of the Ministry of Health and the team of the State Sanitary Inspection checked absolutely all private clinics that have at least one operating room”, Minister Rogobete also declared.

ENT operations, without ENT specialty

The investigative site Snoop.ro wrote, on Monday, that Marek Vâlcu has been performing nasal concha resections and septoplasty for at least 16 years. These operations require ENT specialization, which the doctor does not possess. The doctor confirmed that he does not specialize in ENT.

The publication talked to Monica Feliu, a patient who underwent a failed surgery, only to discover later that the doctor did not have the right to perform the operation. She claims that she has almost completely lost her sense of smell, and due to severe apnea after the surgery, she is forced to sleep only with a CPAP breathing machine.

“My life expectancy is greatly diminished due to the fact that it irreparably destroyed my ability to breathe. And I'm not saying it, that's what at least ten experts in ENT surgery from the country and abroad who refused to operate on me explained to me. They told me that the area can no longer be approached surgically because of the intervention in 2021. In short, I became an inoperable and irrecoverable case,” declared Monica Feliu.

Monica Feliu signed, together with the consent, the assumption and that “I will not have any kind of medico-legal, legal and moral claim against the medical institution or any of its employees”. Snoop's documentation revealed that she is not alone.
