Star athlete, shot on street, fights for his life: 'He's going through tough times'

New York Jets quarterback Kris Boyd, 29, was rushed to the hospital after being shot twice in the abdomen in midtown Manhattan. The incident took place Friday to Saturday, around 2:00 a.m., in front of a restaurant frequented by celebrities.

Boyd allegedly argued with the attackers before they opened fire. Two luxury cars, one of which was suspected to be carrying the shooter, immediately fled the scene.

The police are investigating the case with the help of surveillance cameras

The athlete was found in critical condition and taken to the hospital, where doctors tried to stabilize his internal bleeding, according to nypost.com.

The NYPD is investigating the shooting, analyzing surveillance footage to identify the vehicles involved. So far, the attackers have not been caught.

Although officially the quoted source has not yet provided a medical update, the player's close friend, Ernest Quander, sent an encouraging message:

“He's fine now. He's in good shape. He's feeling a lot better. He's a soldier, he's going through a tough time. He's going to be fine.”

Quander, considered a good friend of Boyd's since their days at the University of Texas, said he was moving to New York to be by his side.

Kris Boyd was in his first season with the New York Jets after signing a one-year, $1.6 million contract in the summer.

Unfortunately, he did not get to play a single game in 2025, being placed on the unavailable list in August after suffering a serious shoulder injury during training.
