“Serious slip-ups on the part of the organizers”

Today, Iulian Mihăilă, the president of the League of Legends, an organization in which several former Romanian players are active, who withdrew from the event, sent a statement in which he raises several questions.

“Disrespect!”

Mihăilă presents the reasons for the withdrawal of the League of Legends: “The decision of the League of Legends Association to withdraw from this project was made following serious slippages on the part of the organizers, which directly affected the credibility and integrity of the collaboration. Among the most important reasons:

• The lack of respect towards the Romania Legends team, manifested by the public announcement that parallel negotiations are being conducted with members of the Golden Generation, while our contract was in force.

• The appearance in the organizing team of Mr. Nicola Imputato, a person with a dubious reputation, a fact that raises questions about the seriousness and transparency of the project.

• Failure to fulfill contractual terms, including those related to payments, promotion, logistics and communication.

• Lack of proper promotion of the event despite repeated promises. As of this date, there is no confirmed media partner to cover the national broadcast of the match, although discussions to this effect have been initiated since September 30.

• Changing the Ronaldinho team's squad, without prior information from the partners, which seriously affected the image and attractiveness of the event”.

“Serious doubts regarding the conduct of the event”

The President of the League of Legends goes further and claims that he has serious doubts about the organization of the event: “In the context of the numerous uncertainties and behind-the-scenes discussions that hover over the organization, the League of Legends Association expresses its serious reservations regarding the actual performance of the match. In the event that it takes place, we believe that there is a risk of a major failure, with a negative impact on the image of the City of Iași, which deserves events organized with professionalism and respect for public”.

Iulian Mihăilă also drew attention to an element: “During a press conference on November 7, Mr. Alcides Bertaccini and Mrs. Fabiana Hutten were presented as Ronaldinho's agents and spokespeople. The League of Legends Association draws attention to the lack of official confirmations or mentions in the international press to support these claims. The only identifiable reference is a mention from January 2025, according to which Mr. Bertaccini would have brokered a contract between the company representing Ronaldinho and a tech company, for the development of an AI avatar”.

Why have the claims increased?

Mihăilă admits that during the collaboration with the organizers he requested “a triple amount compared to the initial value of the contract, but this amount represented approximately 10% of Ronaldinho's team fee, according to the information provided by the organizers. We believe that our request was justified and proportional to the involvement and value of the Romania Legends team” and announced that he sent an official notification, by which he requested the agreement for the publication of the contract between the two parties.

“If this agreement is not offered, we will go to the courts to cancel the confidentiality clause,” said the president of the League of Legends, who concluded: “We express our regret to the public from Iași, who deserved an authentic sports show, and we hope that future initiatives of this type will be organized with more responsibility.”
