“This afternoon, the Salvamont teams were alerted following the disappearance of a child who was with his family on the route to the Omu Peak. Search actions were immediately launched in the area, including with the help of the helicopter. The child was later found by the meteorologist on duty at the Omu Weather Station. After identifying him, a first response team from SPJ Salvamont Prahova, located on the Bucegi plateau, started moving to the place where he is the child”, the Salvamont officials said.
Representatives of Salvamont Prahova specified for the News.ro agency that it is about a 17-year-old teenager.
Prahoven rescuers tell the story that the family left Peştera towards Omu Peak, on the Obârsiei Valley, although the conditions of the route did not recommend this, especially without adequate equipment.
“The action is expected to be long and very difficult”
“At some point, the parents stopped, but their 17-year-old son decided to continue the route alone. After waiting for 3 hours, seeing that he did not return or answer the phone, the parents called 112. Although the route in question is in the territory of Dâmboviţa County, we were also alerted, and the first response team, consisting of two mountain rescuers, on duty at the Baba Salvamont Base “Mare, he set off for the Omu mountain range. The dispatcher also alerted the air crew from POA Brasov, together with a mountain rescuer from Buşteni, who was the closest to the search area. Fortunately, the meteorologist noticed him in Valea Gaura and managed to get down to him.”
They stated that the young man is cooperative, but he fell and suffered a spine injury, unable to move.
“At this moment, four mountain rescuers from Prahova have reached him, to give him first medical aid and start transporting him on a stretcher, towards Bran. Another 17 mountain rescuers from Braşov are heading down to Valea Gaura, to make the junction with the first response team from Prahova. The action will last several hours, due to the difficult terrain and the winter conditions at the site of the accident”, stated Salvamont Prahova.
The young man's parents were brought down safely by mountain rescuers from Dâmboviţa.
